September 2010 – The year of the 4th grader

September 16, 2010

For the last year, I have spent most of my time drawing dogs (for my current picture book project). So, to escape my four-legged cartoon character routine, this year’s project is to focus on drawing children. More specifically; 4th graders.

We all remember 4th grade, right? This was the time in our lives when we first started experiencing growing pains. It was 4th grade where I developed a certain awkwardness. I was nervous about life and I had a strong desire to go through my day completely unnoticed by the world around me. My hair was messy, my clothes were wrinkled and my shoes would be too big one day and too small the next. I believe the 4th grade is where a person’s “character” is born.

Over the next year, I will study the art of the 4th grader. Stay tuned…
